ABOUT MBDA

The U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) is the only federal agency solely dedicated to the growth and global competitiveness of Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs). The mission of the Minority Business Development Agency is to promote the growth of minority-owned businesses through the mobilization and advancement of public and private sector programs, policy, and research. MBDA has accomplished this mission by funding a network of Business Development and Specialty Centers that provide Socially or Economically Disadvantaged Business Enterprises with a variety of business development services.

ABOUT THE SAN ANTONIO
MBDA ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CENTER

Established in 2016, the San Antonio MBDA Advanced Manufacturing Center (MBDA-AMC) is funded by the Minority Business Development Agency. MBDA-AMC serves Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) in the manufacturing industry nationwide. The Center helps socially or economically disadvantaged firms in different industries scale and grow by providing customized business development services. MBDA-AMC assists MBEs with business assessment and resource planning, and facilitates access to contracts and subcontracting opportunities in government and commercial sectors based on their industrial classifications and product and service categories. Our clients have access to a variety of business-to-business matchmaking opportunities, referral services, technical assistance, and specialized training programs.

ABOUT UTSA

Javid has 30 years of experience working with businesses in manufacturing-related industries, including the automotive industry, in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. During the past 15 years and as a full-time management consultant, Javid has been assisting both small businesses, in accessing to contract and capital, and large Prime Contractors and OEMs, in diversifying their supply chain. Javid holds a B.S. in Physics, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering, and an EMBA from his overseas studies, as well as an MBA from Texas A&M University San Antonio. About Charles

Charles has over thirty years of experience in the manufacturing industry, particularly in the clothing industry. As a senior executive, small business owner, and business consultant, Charles has extensive knowledge of the apparel global value chain.

Born and raised in Texas, Charles graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in Business Administration, managed his successful small business for decades, scaled it to the international level, and collaborated with various manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers of different sizes locally and internationally. Charles can share his extensive experience in outsourcing, offshoring, nearshoring, and reshoring with small and minority businesses.
