Success Stories

The Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) operated by the University of Texas at San Antonio, provides Minority Business Enterprises (MBE’s) with business development and technical assistance services. The AMC will focus primarily in the manufacturing sector for the sole purpose of promoting growth and global competiveness.

The Advanced Manufacturing Center is funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) and is part of the UTSA Institute for Economic Development (IED). The center is one of four MBDA-AMC locations in the nation primarily covering a five state region of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

Minority-owned firms are consistently cited by economists as an engine of employment growth and economic expansion in America.  Facilitating and promoting the success of MBE’s is anticipated to have a significant impact on jobs creation and retention and this success will positively impact the tax base in their communities.

The San Antonio Advanced Manufacturing Center’s aim is to follow the Institute for Economic Development’s approach in building the economy one business at a time, with the highest level of integrity and excellence in services. Also, to realize the MBDA intention in increasing the number of “Made in America” products that can be sold domestically and globally.

The Advanced Manufacturing Center provides opportunities for growth through facilitating Access to Capital, Access to Markets, and Access to Contracts. The center will assist with identifying, screening, promoting, and referencing specialized advanced manufacturing programs. We are committed to assisting manufacturing MBE’s in the following areas:

  • Establish a national ecosystem of MBE’s with access to Advanced Manufacturing expertise through a national network of resources, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate growth and competiveness by identifying market opportunities through direct matching with qualified and vetted MBE’s.
  • Identification and securing of traditional and alternative sources of capital.
  • Facilitate growth through exports by identifying global market opportunities.
  • Communicate and educate MBE’s on the benefits of strategic growth alternatives such as mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
  • Advocate and educate the public and private sector on ways to expand their resources through the selection of manufacturing MBE’s.
  • Provide service referrals to all manufacturing MBE’s regardless of size.
